Description:

From 35th Annual Artistry in Wood Website:

Artistry in Wood, held by The Dayton Carvers Guild (Ohio), is a celebration of wood carving and woodworking art. It's believed to be the largest show of its kind in the U.S. For the last several years attendance has broken 5,000. In 2015 we had over 225 exhibitors and vendors. These exhibitors come from almost half the states in our country and from Canada.

Primarily, the show is an exhibit. Carvers and woodworkers show their work and most sell their work. Prices range from bargains to five-figures. Tools, supplies, roughouts, sharpening services and top quality wood are available for purchase. Two publications have a presence: Chip Chats and Woodcarving Illustrated. Woodcarving Illustrated has demonstrations and "spit and whittle" carve-alongs.

More than just exhibits await the public. They can also bid on select items at a silent auction and they can buy raffle tickets for prizes. One raffle prize is a collection of hand made wooden ornaments adorning a Christmas tree. Three free demonstrations are presented each day in a special area which has a big flat screen for displaying close-ups of the work in progress.

There is a competition for the show exhibitors. Winning a Best of Show here is a lifetime accomplishment. In 2015 there were 377 entries in Woodcarving with 230 ribbons being awarded, and 87 entries in Woodworking with 74 ribbons being awarded.
