The Dayton Artistry in Wood show began in 1981 with the purpose to provide the very best show of its type. Systematically each year it has continued to enhance the quality and improvement of making this show into a premier event for highlighting the art of woodcarving and woodworking.

The four entities that benefit from this purpose of providing the best show possible are exhibitors, vendors, visitors and charities. Each of these entities are intertwined and complement each other to make for an outstanding show.

The present location for Artistry in Wood show the second weekend of October is the Roberts Centre, Wilmington, Ohio. The new location provides the best venue for a show the size in which Artistry in Wood has grown and to provide the best atmosphere for the benefit of visitors, exhibitors, vendors and subsequently the two Charities of United Rehabilitation Services and Partners Against Crime. The beautiful ballroom exhibition hall of Roberts Centre is complimented with a lunch concession area, Max and Erma restaurant and a Holiday Inn in the same complex with plenty of free parking.

In 2017, 3500 visitors viewed the displays of 187 woodcarving and woodworking exhibitors while many exhibitors entered 294 competition entries in Woodcarving and 54 entries in the Woodworking. Visitors and exhibitors alike took advantage of the 25 vendors in purchasing a vast variety of tools, wood, rough outs, books and supplies. Activities of interest include the Children's hands on woodworking projects sponsored by the Western Ohio Woodworkers; a Silent Auction of wooden art; raffles for prizes; Ornament carving contest; Seven Demonstrations; Saturday night banquet; Magazine recycle exchange table; Guest artist's display of wooden bicycles; and especially for visitors and exhibitors to experience conversations of mutual interest and friendship.
