Description:

From 38th annual Artistry in Wood Show Website:

October 12 and 13, 2019 will be the 38th and FINAL Dayton Artistry in Wood Show at the Roberts Centre, Wilmington, OH. It is being called a CELEBRATION and REUNION Show to emphasize the long and positive influence this show has contributed to the woodcarving and woodworking world since 1981. Each and every show since has been a celebration of the creative endeavors of each artist in wood who exhibited at any of the shows and a reunion of friendship made and being made with each successive show.

This final show will celebrate the long and positive purpose of hosting such a show as Artistry in Wood that can best be described in the description of the Ron Ryan award. Ron Ryan was one of the first co-chairman of the show and after his death, an award was established to honor someone who exemplified the ideals and principles that Ron gave of himself to the carving world "The ideals of giving of oneself, expressing goodwill and exerting the extra effort needed to promote these qualities in one's own community and throughout the woodcarving world."

We celebrate these ideals that have guided the Artistry in Wood Committee under the leadership and guidance of co-chairmen and chairmen who followed Ron. We celebrate the labors of love and leadership of Bob Wening, Ray Kunz, Charlie Cooke, Dave Schneberger, Jim Moser, Ken Bedel and Don Worley and the AIW committee for maintaining the high standards through 38 shows.

We celebrate that each show gave to the community through charities that have amounted to $152,000 with United Rehabilitation Services being the primary recipient. The celebration continues to acknowledge that each show provided the best atmosphere to showcase the creative artistry of woodcarvers and woodworkers who are the heart of the show along with vendors of tools and supplies that support these endeavors.

In appreciation of exhibitors and vendors and those who participate in the competitions, this final show has increased prize money to add winners of class ribbons to the money prize. No corners are being cut in that AIW continues to invest heavily into advertising as well as continue all those additional enhancements that have become favorites for all participants, such as:

Special Exhibit of the Wright Brothers B Flyer Demonstration Presentations sponsored by Woodcarving Illustrated Silent Auction and Raffle of coveted prizes like 100 carved ornaments Children's Hands On projects by Western Ohio Woodworkers Magazine Recycle Exchange Ornament Carving Contest Competition for Woodcarving and Woodworking Banquet for Exhibitors with Raffle Prizes and Door Prizes.

The Reunion phase of this final show will begin with memories of previous shows and people who made them memorable. The reunion will continue as friend meets friend with reminiscing conversations continuing and friendship renewed. Bittersweet reunion endures with gratitude for a memorable show through 38 annual shows.
